Foaling down service

Davidson Veterinary offers clients a foaling down service. Mares are fitted with a 'Sigloo' foaling alarm and housed in purpose-built mare yards with safe fencing, directly adjacent to our residence to enable close supervision.

As your mare gets closer to foaling regular checks include assessing the pH of the mare's milk, change in udder size, relaxation of the pelvic ligaments, and change in vulval tone.

Following the birth of the foal a health check is conducted along with regular monitoring. This includes checking the foal is drinking correctly, has sufficient IgG levels, has passed meconium, and is maintaining hydration.
